Booking your session is the exciting part. Then comes the question so many people have. How do I actually prepare so everything goes smoothly and we get photos we love?

Take a deep breath, because the truth is you do not need to have it all figured out. My job is to guide you through the whole thing. But a little preparation does go a long way toward a calm, joyful session, so here is your simple checklist to walk in feeling ready.

A Week or More Before

Plan your outfits early. This Is the biggest stress reliever there is. Choose coordinating neutrals and earth tones, avoid logos and busy patterns, and pull from one shared color pallette. Lay everything out together a few days ahead so you can see how the looks work as a group and swap anything that clashes. Giving yourself time means no last minute scramble.

Think about your location and timing. If we have not already locked in the details, consider where you would love your photos taken and what time works best for your family. For sessions with little ones, a time when they are usually fed and rested makes a world of difference. Golden hour near sunset is often the sweet spot for both light and mood.

Handle any personal touch ups. If you want a fresh haircut, a manicure, or anything similar, schedule it a few days before rather than the day of, so everything has time to settle and feel like you.

The Day Before

Iron or steam your outfits so nothing is wrinkled. Charge your patience and set realistic expectations, especially with young kids. Get a good night's sleep if you can. And gather a small bag of essentials so you are not rushing in the morning.

What to Bring to Your Session

A few small things make everything smoother.

Snacks and water, especially for children, chosen to avoid messy faces and stained clothes. A small brush or comb for quick touch ups. Any meaningful items you would love in your photos, like a special blanket, a favorite toy for a child, or something sentimental. And for maternity or milestone sessions, anything that tells your story.

During Your Session

Here is the most Important part. Come as you are and plan to simply be together. The best images come from real connection, not stiff, frozen posing. Laugh with each other, snuggle in close, let the kids be kids. I will gently guide you into flattering positions and prompt natural interaction, so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands.

If a toddler melts down, someone gets shy, or things do not go perfectly, that is completely okay. Those in between, unplanned moments often turn into the most honest and beautiful frames of the entire session. Give yourself and your family grace.

After Your Session

Once we wrap, the rest is up to me. I will carefully edit your gallery and deliver your images to you. All you have to do is look forward to reliving the day through your photos.

The bottom line is this. You do not need to be a model or have everything perfectly polished. You just need to show up as your real selves and trust me to capture it. That is where the magic happens.
